Florida Power & Light Co.; Overtown-Venetian 138kV Transmission Line; Miami & Miami Beach, FL

Avisco is currently under contract with Florida Power & Light Co. (FPL) to provide construction and support services for the installation of a 138 kV cable circuit between existing FPL Substations in Miami and Miami Beach. Under strict environmental and regulatory compliance, a 9.625-inch pipe-type cable, approximately 15,000-feet in length, will be installed beneath Biscayne Bay using horizontal directional drilling (HDD) and terminate at the two existing landside substations using open-cut excavation methods. Avisco’s scope of work includes locating and marking all existing underground utilities to avoid damage during construction; installing all temporary safety and security fencing for the work areas; installing and maintaining traffic control in accordance with FDOT standards; excavating and installing four (4) manhole vaults to accommodate cable pipe connections; completing all landside trenching and connections between the HDD casing and manholes; and excavating the open trench to each substation from the HDD boring splice locations to allow connection of local power. Subsequent to the cable installation, Avisco will backfill the cable trench with a fluidized thermal backfill. Additional activities Avisco will perform include developing and installing an intricate dewatering plan to facilitate trench excavations; disposal of residual spoils in accordance with local, state, and federal laws; constructing a reinforced concrete foundation slab for a nitrogen gas cabinet; and performing site and surface restoration activities that include, but are not limited to pavement, curb and gutters, sidewalks, and sod restoration. All activities are being performed in strict accordance to special permitting, environmental, and other regulatory requirements.

CH2M Hill/Lockwood Greene; Oak Ridge Science and Technology Park - Civil Site Work; Oak Ridge, TN

This project, located in Oak Ridge, TN, is to perform site preparation for a building to house science and technology personnel for the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The work that Avisco is performing includes demolition of existing structures and infrastructure; installation of erosion and sediment controls; mass excavation including the removal of mass rock; installation of a sanitary sewer system, storm sewer system and potable and fire water system. The storm and sanitary systems include the installation of manholes, catch basins and concrete pipe. The potable and fire water system includes installation of piping, valves, restraints, valve enclosures, meters, fittings and instruments.

Turner Universal Construction Co.; Y-12 Alternative Financing Project, Site A & B; Oak Ridge, TN

Avisco, Inc. was awarded a contract from Turner Construction Co. This project involved the Site Grading and Utilities (Water, Storm Drainage and Sanitary Sewer) on two sites at the BWXT Y-12 Oak Ridge Facility.  The work performed included site preparation, installation of erosion control and temporary site fencing; sitework demolition including existing fencing and concrete pads; site grading including roadways and ramps; relocation and reconnection of existing utilities; installation of domestic water lines, sanitary sewer lines, manholes and cleanouts; installation of Fire Loop including testing and flushing of domestic water and fire lines; backfilling of utilities and structures; off-site sanitary sewer tie-in; relocation of existing pedestrian portal on Site A; permanent fencing, seeding and landscaping.

Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) Facilities; Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL); Oak Ridge, TN

Avisco is currently working under a basic ordering agreement with UT-Battelle, LLC at the the Oak Ridge National Laboratory’s Spallation Neutron Source Facility (SNS).  This agreement encompasses multiple types of site work as directed by UT-Battelle.  Since 1999, Avisco has successfully completed multiple projects at SNS.   Avisco performed the first contract for the facility, Bear Creek Access RoadThis project involved trench excavation, erosion control, pipe backfilling and  seeding of disturbed areas, clearing and grubbing, stockpiling, grading, excavation, installation of storm drainage, base stone and asphalt pavement and finish grading.  Avisco then began construction of the Bethel Valley Access Road and 24" Waterline Relocation.  The objective of this project was to construct a two-lane access road from Bethel Valley Road to the future site of the Spallation Neutron Source Facility as well relocate an existing 24-inch water main crossing the future site.   Concurrently with road construction, mobilization began on the Initial Site Preparation and Mass Excavation project.  1.4 million cubic yards of earth was excavated and compacted to prepare for the future building sites.  Other major items of work included erosion control, backfill and seeding of disturbed areas, stockpiling, grading, the installation of storm drainage piping, structures and base stone.  It also included construction of a gravel pad for a temporary AE/CM trailer complex and construction of temporary site roads, drainage and parking areas. Avisco also performed the Site Utilities General Construction projectThis project consisted of the complete installation of site utilities for the entire SNS project.  Systems installed included underground electrical lines, potable water lines, chilled water lines, sanitary sewer lines, communication ductbanks, and gas lines.  Areas of work included erosion control, trench excavation, bedding, backfill and seeding of disturbed areas, concrete blocking, cradles, anchors, caps, insulation, testing and associated structures for all underground utilities. Other major projects performed at SNS were:  SNS Site Roadway Paving, SNS Land Improvements, SNS Off-site Natural Gas Line, and the SNS Central Lab and Office Building (CLO) Support Services.

CSX Transportation, Inc.; Radnor Oil/Water Separator Upgrade; Nashville, TN

Avisco, Inc. was recently awarded a contract from CSX Transportation, Inc. (CSXT) to upgrade CSXT’s Radnor Rail Yard Oil/Water Separator System in Nashville, TN. Avisco is currently in the operational phase of this project which involves the razing of the existing rail yard oil/water separator system and providing a complete and functional oil/water separator system upgrade. The overall scope of work includes removing the existing oil/water separator unit, grit collection system, oil skimmer, sand tank and other ancillary support equipment as well as the design and installation of a oil/water separator unit structural steel support system, installation of the new oil/water separator unit and ancillary equipment, influent and effluent tie-in connections, and functional/mechanical testing and start-up.

CSX Transportation, Inc.; Micro-pile Retaining Wall Roadbed Stabilization; Atlanta, GA

Avisco, Inc. was recently awarded a contract from CSX Transportation, Inc. (CSXT) to stabilize the proposed roadbed along CSXT’s Atlanta Terminal Long John Siding in Atlanta, GA. Avisco is currently in the operational phase of this project which involves the construction of a micro-pile retaining wall system and drainage improvements to stabilize the roadbed adjacent to the Long John Siding. The overall scope of work includes the construction of a proposed micro-pile retaining wall generally consisting of installing 32, 9 5/8-inch x _-inch, micro piles at a depth of 30 feet and grouted into place. The wall is constructed with 120, 24-inch x 6-inch x 6-foot, reinforced concrete lagging along the exposed face of the wall. Other stabilization improvements include rip rap slope reinforcement and drainage improvements.

East Tennessee Zinc Company, LLC; Impoundment Upgrade; Strawberry Plains, TN

Avisco, Inc. was recently awarded a contract from East Tennessee Zinc Company, LLC (ETZC) for impoundment improvements to ETZC’s Young’s Mill Tailings impoundment in Strawberry Plains, TN. Avisco is currently in the operational phase of this project which involves the raising of the impoundment dam 10 to 20 feet in height inboard of the existing crest to provide additional storage capacity for fine tailings and storm flows. The overall scope of work includes mass and selective excavations of whole tail and fine tailings from the existing berm along the roadway across the impoundment crest and impoundment area and utilizing the whole tailings to construct the new impoundment dam and the fine tailings to construct the outboard face of the new impoundment dam.

Habitat for Humanity; Carroll Hollow Subdivision Infrastructure; Clinton, TN

Avisco, Inc. was recently awarded a contract with the Habitat for Humanity of Anderson County to develop a small subdivision in Clinton, TN. Avisco is currently in the operational phase of this project which involves the roadway, waterline, and storm drainage system construction. The overall scope of work for the Carroll Hollow Subdivision infrastructure construction includes installation of erosion control measures and other best management practices, site grading, roadway construction, stone base and asphalt paving, water line main and lateral/service line installations, boring and jacking, storm drainage installations, and other ancillary development activities.

Shaw AREVA MOX Service, LLC; Supplied Engineered Fill; Aiken, SC

Avisco, Inc. was recently awarded a contract with Shaw AREVA MOX Services, LLC. To supply engineered fill for the Mixed Oxide (MOX) Fuel Fabrication Facility Project at the Savannah River Site located in Aiken, SC. Avisco is currently in the operational phase of this project which involves the procurement, coordination, testing, and delivery of approximately 100,000 tons of engineered fill for the performance of the MOX Fuel Fabrication Facility construction.
